For the German Speakers . . .

Tradition does not require preserving the ashes. Tradition requires passing on the matches.

PS: It turns out that Tatort is quoting the statesman and martyr Thomas Morus (1478-1535) who reportedly said: “Tradition doesn’t mean holding on to the ashes, it means passing the torch.”

  1. Well, Morus’s original about passing the torch is definitely more valuable than the fraternity version with the matches. According to the Greek’s civilization begun when Promotheus stole the fire from the gods. May be, that’s why civilization is so fragile.

You gotta light a fire to maintain civilization but fire remains a destructive force.
