Cornell v. Coulter

all-encompassingly provides some analysis of the fight between Lydia Cornell and Ann Coulter. What is especially intriguing about this confrontation is the rhetorical role that p*rn is playing, particularly for Lydia Cornell. She accuses Ann Coulter of the use of political p*orn in her techniques. I am confused about this–is it because when an attractive woman talks politics she is engaging in political p*rn? It is surprising that Lydia Cornell of all people is accusing Ann Coulter of resorting to “political p*rn” to get a message across. After all, it is Lydia Cornell and not Ann Coulter who has raunchy pornographic pictures of herself posted on her website (reproduced by all-encompassingly). This is enlightening considering Lydia Cornell’s holier-than-thou rhetoric in her post about Coulter in which she claims to be “deeply anti-p*rn.” What could Cornell possibly be thinking in writing that? I suppose she would say that the pictures of herself are not p*rn.

  1. Don’t know about the other chick, but Coulter deserves whatever sleaze comes her way. She clearly merchandises herself as tall blonde chick saying outrageous things for attention and attacks dissent as treason. She is… I’m not exactly sure what she is, certainly not a journalist, just another marketer of division, polarizing bile and nonsense. When did intellectuals and writers get replaced by loudmouths and media celebrities?

  2. Stuart once called AC a “talking points whore.” He also compared Michael Moore to Leni Riefenstahl. Well, at least he’s fair and balanced.

  3. I’m not really defending AC. I’m asking about the sanity of this Lydia Cornell. Surely, liberals must idolize her. I am guessing that to them, what she is doing is not exactly the same as what AC is doing. The most perplexing thing, however, is this accusation of “political porn” that LC throws at AC, when it is LC who has the pornographic pictures of herself on her website, and not AC, that I am aware of.At the all-encompassingly analysis of this Lydia Cornell piece, travis says that he has actually read AC’s material. I personally have not, but am wondering, from those who have consistently read her, if she is really as full of bile and sensationalism as so many are pointing out?

  4. I am new to the blog, so I assume that the word c–t is off limits, right? I actually never used that word much till I married a Brazilian, who seems very fond of the term….

  5. Actually, I’ve never <>heard<> of the Cornell woman. Indeed, I didn’t even know that liberals had any serious media personalities (the Air America people don’t count– you have to be heard by more than 100 people to be considered serious)…

  7. Brian, think of Al Franken, Dan Rather, the O’Briens, Wolf Blizter, Dianne Rehm, and an undetermined number of bloggers, to just name a few liberal media personalities.Admittedly, Cornell is not on the list of mega-media-personalities, unless you consider her tv acting and pornographic pictures on her website as qualifiers for that. This post was focused on the content of Cornell’s accusations. In addition to accusing AC of using “political p*rn” (does anyone know what this is supposed to mean), Cornell says that she does not know any democrats who are pro-abortion. What does she mean when she says something like this? Is it a play on words (see Ronan’s most recent post about the Bush Administration’s statement that “we do not torture”)? I.e. she is setting up a straw man because no democrats are “pro-abortion” they are only “pro-choice”? Or is she being disingenuous in another way?

  8. What Lydia means by she doesn’t know any democrats who are pro-abortion, is this.<>She doesn’t know any democrats who are pro abortion.<>What’s the question? Are their adjectives or nouns in there outside of your reading comprehension skills?I am not a dem, but I am a lib, and I am not “pro-abortion”. We just don’t think we need a government that tells Americans what to do with their own bodies. Clear it up any?As for her pictures being porn? What are you the Church lady? Remember it’s only porn there slappy, if you stare at it for more that 5 minutes. 😐
